[This was in response to an internet post proclaiming, with an accompanying diagram, that Australia is wider than the moon.]
Australia is wider than the moon
(with apologies to Emily Dickinson)

One's a sprawling walkabout—
With songlines guiding the way.
The other has vanishing vistas
With histories none can say.
One's a sweltering walkabout—
With sand and blistering clay.
The other has frozen footprints
Colder than winter's day.
One's a wandering walkabout—
The other's billiard round.
They differ, when compared at all,
As Waltzing Matildas in boisterous bars
From abundant absence of sound.
